Job description
As a Registered Dental Hygienist, you will play a pivotal role in promoting and maintaining oral health within the dental practice. Your primary responsibilities will include performing dental cleanings, educating patients on proper oral hygiene, and collaborating with the dental team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Conduct thorough dental assessments, including reviewing medical histories and evaluating oral health conditions.
- Perform screenings for oral cancer and other dental diseases.
- Administer professional dental cleanings, including scaling, root planning, and prophylaxis.
- Remove plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
- Provide guidance on maintaining optimal oral health between dental visits.
- Assist in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases.
- Collaborate with the dentist to develop treatment plans for patients with gum disease.
- Take and develop dental X-rays as part of the diagnostic process.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols.
- When appropriate, apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to prevent tooth decay.
- When appropriate, administer antimicrobial agents to control periodontal disease.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including charting treatment plans and procedures performed.
- Document clinical notes and observations.
- Work closely with the dentist and dental assistants to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in case discussions and treatment planning.
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols to ensure a safe and sterile environment.
- Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment.
- Degree from an accredited dental hygiene program.
- Current and valid state dental hygiene license.
- Proficient in performing dental cleanings and other preventive procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of dental anatomy, oral pathology, and periodontal diseases.
- Familiarity with dental instruments and equipment.
- Certification in dental radiography.
- Competence in taking and developing dental X-rays.
- Adherence to ethical standards and patient confidentiality.
- Commitment to continuing education and staying current on industry trends.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a dental team.
