Job description

We are looking for an experienced Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager to drive world class EHSS performance in a R&D laboratory environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing key safety programs at our R&D facility in South San Francisco, and partnering with clients to advance safety culture and manage EHSS risks.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of all EHSS disciplines and be able to support laboratory clients with input from other EHSS subject matter experts at the site

Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager

Job Summary:
The Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager will drive world class EHSS performance across the site in a biotech research environment. The role will be responsible for the execution of key EHSS processes including:
o Continuous improvement of the safety program across site
o Trending and analysis of EHSS information and provide data intelligence and actions
o Provide support for projects as part of EHS Design Review, Change Management, etc.
o Provide subject matter expertise for several EHSS programs including Contractor Management, environmental programs, and industrial safety

Primary responsibilities include:
o Support laboratory clients with input from other EHSS subject matter experts at the site and from within the R&D community.
o Partner with clients to advance safety culture and manage EHSS risks
o Analyze metrics and establish annual action plans to drive continuous improvement.
o Establish and execute risk assessment plans for clients to ensure all risks are proactively addressed and control systems are implemented and maintained
o Ensure all changes with potential EHSS impact are assessed and controls are established prior to implementation
o Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed
o Establish safe work procedures for hazardous work
o Conduct regular inspections of the work areas

Basic Qualifications:
o Bachelors degree & 3 to 5 years of experience in EHSS
o Strong understanding of Chemical and Biological laboratory operations.

Preferred Qualifications:
o 3 to 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry implementing EHSS programs
o Optional - Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
o Experience implementing and supporting CCD, hazardous gas, warehouse, chemical, biosafety and safety programs
o Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and influence management
o Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
o Strong technical writing skills
o Proficient in Microsoft Office, smartsheets, and other computer software systems
