To advance our research and innovation in the microbiome program, we are seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist with experience in Next-generation sequencing technology. The individual will mainly be involved in various oral and skin health innovation projects initiated at Colgate-Palmolive. The candidate will also research newer lab techniques and bring technologies in-house to help advance Colgate-Palmolive’s science-based business. In addition, the individual will also help in routine lab techniques including maintaining sample inventory, accurate laboratory records, autoclave biological waste, collaborate with other scientists on-site in maintaining the sequencing lab and collaborating with the Bioinformatics team to timely deliver data.
Responsilbilities:
- Perform research and/or development for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) solutions in collaboration with other Scientists on projects;
- Carry out activities such as RNA/DNA isolation, cDNA library construction, library amplification, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and other standard molecular biology techniques;
- Extract DNA and/or RNA from a range of sources, including blood, oral swabs or fecal samples from ad hoc feeding studies and also from bioarchived samples. Execute and optimize protocols for such extraction and purification methods for high efficiency and quality.
- Help maintain bioarchive samples and maintain sample inventory including retrieval of samples from different freezers.
- Coordinate with other laboratory members in performing routine laboratory duties as assigned including help with cell culture, autoclaving of lab materials, autoclaving of biological waste, shipping samples, filling up of liquid nitrogen in storage tanks, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance of equipment; Check inventory and replenish consumable sequencing supplies;
- Prepare technical reports; Maintain current, complete, legible notebooks and laboratory records in compliance with good scientific and regulatory practices
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a life science (microbiome, genetics, molecular biology, or a related field)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of industry experience stated in responsibilities.
- Experience in molecular biology lab and NGS techniques, especially in RNA or DNA extractions, PCR, sequencing, or cell culture.
- Specific knowledge in oral microbial experiments and analysis is highly desirable
- Attention to details, maintaining accurate and complete laboratory and electronic records.
- Ability to independently and effectively carry out the assigned laboratory work around stated priorities, and in coordination with other laboratory members
- Excellent Organizational Skills
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $68,000.00 - $75,000.00 USD
Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.
Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

- Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
