Job description
We are currently seeking coverage for 2025! Are you a resident heading into a cardiac fellowship? If so, reach out to us today, we would love to have you interview with our team!
Clinical excellence is essential in our fast-paced and medically-directed environment that includes all types of cases including high acuity cardiac cases. We are a team system and provide mentoring in areas that need to be strengthened or require more experience.
Our Cardiothoracic Physicians will have about 1000-1200 cardiac pump cases per year. In regards to call, physicians see about 2-3 overnight in house calls per month and back-up pager call is approximately 3-4 times per month. Mix of cardiac (mostly) and general call; average to 1 day/week and 1 weekend per month. Some in house over night shifts with pre and post call day off and the majority of the rest of the call is cardiac call (back up at home on pager after 7pm). Post call day is early out.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Prepares and administers general and regional anesthetics and pain medication, adjusting as needed before, during, and after surgery and other procedures.
- Provides anesthesia maintenance and adjustment before, during, and after procedures.
- Maintains patient records.
- Orders diagnostic tests as needed.
- Works closely with surgical specialists.
- Performs venous and arterial punctures.
- Performs pre-anesthesia patient evaluation.
- Provides post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
- Provides and monitors mechanical ventilation.
- Communicate with patients, and their families and caregivers.
- Reacts appropriately to adverse reactions and complications.
- Evaluates patient histories, lab results, and surgical plans to determine an appropriate anesthesia and pain management plan.
- Monitors patient fluid, blood, and electrolyte balance, and other vital signs and critical functions during course of procedures.
- Performs tracheal intubation, airway management, and extubation.
- Monitors patients following procedures to determine when they can be safely moved from one stage of recovery to the next.
- Takes detailed medical history to determine possible allergic or negative reactions to medication.
- Supervises registered nurse anesthetists and other technical staff.
- Mentors and supervises anesthesiology interns, residents, and fellows.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- All physician applicants must be board certified/board eligible, have completed or are about to complete their anesthesia residency, and are in pursuit of a Cardiothoracic Fellowship (to receive educational assistance). We are currently seeking 2025 coverage.
- We are open to helping support a resident who intends to pursue pediatric fellowship and can make a professional commitment to the group.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills are desired.
