As a Synthesis Chemist in the R&D Synthesis Group at Stepan, you will be responsible for working collaboratively in a team environment to drive projects to completion. In this role, you will be responsible for executing projects and assignments for Stepan’s anionic platform chemistry. The role will require synthesis of anionic surfactants and measuring the chemical, physical, and material properties of the products. Additionally, the Chemist will be responsible for anionic surfactant blend development, analyzing data generated during a project, drawing conclusions, and making suggestions for future action. This role is highly collaborative and will require regular interactions with other business units.

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

• Participate in department workgroup
• Communicate and collaborate with platform managers and manufacturing teams
• Synthesis of anionic surfactants
• Physical properties and stability evaluation of anionic surfactants
• Surfactant blend development
• Cross-functional collaboration with other R&D departments
• Review process results and offer suggestions for improving processes.
• Actively participate in safety/ waste program and steadfastly adhere to policies/standards.
• Keep an organized, up-to-date laboratory notebook and other documentation
• Communicate project results internally via timely written and verbal updates,
• Order/communicate supply and chemical needs.

• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies (instrumentation, test methods, software, etc.).
• Strong initiative and desire to work in a team environment
• Experience in a synthetic organic chemistry lab is highly desired

Education

• BS degree chemistry or similar field with 0-4 years experience, or MS degree in chemistry or similar field.
