CAMP DIRECTOR | PARKS AND RECREATION
** The Camp Director position is Seasonal **
Seasonal (mid-April through mid-September with hiring and training beginning as early as December)
Under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Superintendent. The Camp Director is responsible for the direction and supervision of all counselors and summer camp activities. They will also participate in day-to-day planning and organizing and implementing of all aspects of Camp.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent. Must be at least 21 years old with an understanding of day camp procedures. Prior experience working with children and/or camps required. Preference given to those with a degree in elementary education, parks and recreation or related field or comparable experience. Must have current CPR and First Aid training or willing to receive it during employment. Must have a valid IL driver's license.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for scheduling and managing staff for summer day camps
- Help coordinate bi-weekly payroll to insure employees state correct hours of attendance.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of city policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.
- Responsible for coming to work in a clean, presentable uniform in order to be clearly identified as a city employee.
- Direct and assist in keeping supplies and equipment safe and available by reporting breakage and safety problems.
- Assist in record keeping by taking attendance, collecting permission slips, keeping each child's information up to date, collecting and recording any fees for special events and filling out accident/incident reports as needed.
- Work with staff to develop weekly lesson plans to cover basic activities for class. Give needed supply lists to the Recreation Superintendent to order at least two weeks prior to event.
- Attend various departmental staff trainings as they pertain to policies and procedures, safety, or other subjects as appropriate.
- Assist in organizing staff meetings as needed and communicate to staff.
- Accompany the group on field trips and trips to the pool.
- Communicate with the Recreation Superintendent on a regular basis about problems, solutions, questions, etc.
- Review staff performances throughout the summer and evaluate formally at the end of the season.
- Observe and follow all city safety policies and regulations. The safety of the staff and patrons is a continuing responsibility of all staff members.
Marginal Functions
- Perform other duties and requirements as assigned.
- The city encourages its employees to "take ownership" of their employment. As such, it shall be the responsibility of all employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the park.

Physical Requirements
- Physically able to work in heat and cold. Physically able to participate in active games throughout the day. Able to demonstrate and participate in activities like singing, dancing and arts/crafts.
- Ability to carry basic equipment from storage area (balls, lunches, etc.).
- Ability to communicate with the public verbally and in written form
- Reading handwritten information and writing legibly.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to deal with multiple situations at the same time that may increase stress levels.
- Must make sure that the facilities are kept clean and neat, and equipment is being handled appropriately.
Environmental Conditions
Employee may be required to work outside during various weather conditions including rain and mud, and extremely hot and cold temperatures.
Cognitive Considerations
- Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Beneficial if employee understands or knows Spanish, but not required.
- Employee must possess time management and organizational skills to effectively perform his/her job responsibilities.
- Employee must possess good problem-solving skills and have the capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergency situations.
- Employee must be able to represent the City of Collinsville in a professional manner.
- Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of this position.
Pay Rate
This position has an hourly rate of $18.00 per hour.
