ROLE SUMMARY
The role of the Human Resources Manager is vital to the school in serving and supporting our most valuable asset – our people. The individual serving in this role must be wholeheartedly aligned with the organization’s vision, mission, culture, values, beliefs, and standards. Vital to the school’s continued advancement, this role will oversee and lead human resource functions including recruitment, retention, orientation and onboarding, employee relations, training, performance management, and policy administration. Additionally, this role will be responsible for leading the on-campus human resources staff.
This role is ideal for the individual who loves people and has a broad knowledge of Human Resources best practices. As a critical advocate for the organization’s generous and caring approach to employees, the Human Resources Manager excels in providing excellent customer service, both verbal and written, in supporting a flourishing organizational culture. Serving as a deeply trusted resource for executive leadership, managers and employees is also paramount.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s personnel strategy as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
- Partner with the leadership team, managers, and supervisors on employee relations issues, navigating difficult conversations with grace, truth, and love.
- Oversee the recruiting process within the context of the school’s beliefs, values, and standards to ensure the integrity of the school’s Christian Community is upheld
- Navigate the exit process for all employee separations to ensure employees end well and the organization is reasonably protected from potential legal claims and disputes
- Regularly conduct salary reviews for current employees to ensure external marketplace competitiveness, internal equity, and performance considerations.
- Oversee the orientation and onboarding program to ensure an exceptional first-year experience for new employees in which they feel supported by HR and grafted into the Valor community
- Oversee the school’s background screening program to ensure that all employees and volunteers meet the highest standards and the student population is not unnecessarily put at risk
- Oversee the performance evaluation process and support department chairs and managers in all aspects, specifically in developing and reviewing performance improvement plans
- Lead and manage the on-campus HR staff to ensure their annual goals are met, the department’s objectives are achieved and our employees are well-cared for.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance as needed
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
Supporting Role-related Responsibilities:
- Lead or co-lead all employee investigations as needed, ensuring best practices are followed throughout the process
- Ensure both new and seasoned managers are appropriately trained and encouraged in a variety of human resources-related areas
- Ensure the applicant tracking system (ATS) is configured and functioning optimally to provide an exceptional candidate experience
- Ensure the onboarding requirements for new employees are completed on a timely basis in the school’s HRIS platforms
- Oversee the management of the role description library to ensure they are up to date and in full compliance
- Provide oversight for the professional development approval process and budget tracking for all staff member requests
- Develop the department’s annual operating plan in alignment with the school’s overall strategic objectives
- Ensure all personnel files are complete, containing all necessary and required documentation regarding the employment relationship
