Addiction Psychiatrist in Beautiful Reno/Lake Tahoe Area

VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) is seeking a highly qualified Addiction Psychiatrist. As an Addiction Psychiatrist you will provide care to Veterans with mental health and substance use disorders as part of an integrated team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, peer support specialists, and clinical pharmacists throughout the VASNHCS (inpatient, residential, and emergency department). The ADTP team is a passionate, fun, energetic, and collaborative group. The culture of the team is supportive, and an emphasis is placed on creating opportunities to build relationships with colleagues. The team holds daily meetings to staff cases, collaborate on Veteran care, program development, and engage in activities that promote a positive work environment. 

The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System Addictive Disorders Treatment Program is a comprehensive addiction program that consists of several levels of care in accordance with ASAM guidance. ADTP provides referrals and care coordination for Veterans who meet criteria for ASAM level 4 (medically managed treatment) and level 3 (residential services) programs. ADTP provides ASAM level 2 and level 1 services which includes: a partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, early recovery program, relapse prevention program, harm reduction, motivational enhancement therapy, specialty groups, outpatient detoxification services, and medication assisted treatment. ADTP works closely with community partners to incorporate recreational and social aspects into addictions treatment. Veterans engaged in ADTP services have access to staff supported CrossFit classes, yoga, community service projects, and organizations that help the Veteran explore hobbies/interests in recovery such as, the Nevada Museum of Art and the Automobile Museum.

The Addiction Psychiatrist is a valued member of the team and works closely with RNs, the Care Coordinator, peer support, and the ADTP supervisor to provide outpatient detoxification, medication assisted treatment, addiction consultation/liaison services and teaching Psychiatry Residents and Medical Students. The Addiction Psychiatrist provides cross-coverage as needed throughout the outpatient Mental Health Section. This position requires 3-4 weeks per year of home call (psychiatry resident is first call) and in-house rounding on the weekend. Weekend days are compensated by having weekdays off. The Addiction Psychiatrist must be able to obtain affiliate faculty appointment with the University of Nevada, School of Medicine.

The Reno campus is the site of the Ioannis A. Lougaris VA Medical Center, which operates 64 hospital beds and 60 Community Living Center (CLC) beds. VASNHCS also manages community-based outpatient clinics in Auburn and Susanville, CA, and Carson Valley, Lahontan Valley, Fallon, and Winnemucca, NV. VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System provides health care to approximately 120,000 veterans.
