Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Psychology or a closely related field. Five (5) years of full-time research experience in Psychology to include at least three years of experience following attainment of a Doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience in cognitive impairment, dementia, and PTSD.

● Experience working with World Trade Center Responders.

● Supervision experience.

Brief Description of Duties:

The World Trade Center Health Program works to provide the WTC 9/11 responder community with the best comprehensive care possible. The Program needs a Senior Research Scientist to develop, design and run research experiments to better understand the health effects of the WTC disaster. The incumbent will be part of the research team and ensure that all protocols are followed according to the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University and the Research Foundation.

The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for the following duties:

● Overseeing everyday operations and managing a dynamic research team in the field of cognitive decline and cognitive impairment in a population of World Trade Center responders who are experiencing early onset cognitive decline and dementia.

● Writing papers and applying for continuing funding in the field of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease.

● Overseeing neuroimaging data collection, reporting, and developmental analyses. As such, a deep understanding of neuroscience and of public health is a critical skill set for this position.

● Developing and designing research experiments in the field of Alzheimer's disease epidemiology and characterization of cognitively impaired World Trade Center responders.

● Management of the lab, which includes supervision of postdoctoral associate and research support positions. Provides training on specific specialized skills and research methods to lab staff.

● Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific journals.

● Prepare grant proposals; apply for grants, to include writing proposals for the research projects, identifying funding sources, and training opportunities.

● Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
