Metal Fitter Tacker B What does the job involve? Summary: Set up weld assemblies consisting primarily of prefabricated parts for aircraft, aerospace and similar assemblies involving some stress or distortion in jigs and fixtures preparatory to welding. Requires tack welding of metal parts or assemblies using standard welding methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to:
- Performs such typical operations as assembling prefabricated parts into welding jigs or fixtures to blueprint dimensions.
- Assembles parts preparatory to welding by fitting, filing, deburring, trimming to scribe lines, grinding, and straightens and aligns them after welding.
- Corrects made assemblies for stress and distortion.
- Determines shrink allowances to compensate for this condition.
- Checks planning sequence of work operations and submits any corrections or suggestions to the Team leader for approval.
- Holds parts in place by spot welding, clamping, bonding or machine tacking.
- Performs rework, repair and other associated operations relating to the work described.
- Ascertains correct welding rod, welding location and processes required to tack weld metal parts by following established shop practice, verbal or written instructions.
- Familiarizes self with assembly set-ups to determine if the parts are properly fitted prior to welding.
- Sets-up and operates all grinding equipment, expanders, and large and small band saws, hand plannish sheet metal parts.
- Maintain minimum output of 80%.
- Maintain minimum product quality acceptance of 93%.
- Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: - High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 6 months- 3 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills: - Language : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Have knowledge of the forming characteristics of metals and their reactions when heat is applied.
- Reasoning Ability : Ability to apply a sense of understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Also, Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Other Abilities : Must have knowledge of using gas to prevent oxidation of all heat-affected areas; must be familiar with weld rod and weld symbol charts and weld-specific actions.
- Qualifications: Tacking Certificate and "M" Stamp.
Tools used: - Sets-up and operates all grinding equipment, expanders, and large and small band saws, hand plannish sheet metal parts.
Materials used: - Emery cloth, clamps, cleaning solvent, and welding gases, Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of sheet tubular stock, and machined and formed parts.
