Position Summary
Provides prescribed medical treatment. Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties to assist physicians and other office staff members in the examination and treatment of patients and ensuring office runs smoothly. Responsible for patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Accompanies patient to exam/procedure rooms. Assists patients in walking, transfers, dressing, collection of specimens, etc.
- Checks schedule and organizes patient flow.
- Prepares exam/treatment/procedure rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, including crash cart/anesthesia cart, if onsite. Ensures all treatment rooms cleaned and stocked at end of the workday.
- Assists Physicians in preparing the patient and facilities for surgeries.
- Prepares patients for surgery including scheduling surgeries and preoperative visits; coordinating surgeon, assistants, etc.; and taking photographs, including preoperative.
- Performs post-operative care for minor surgeries such as dressing changes, suture removal, photography, and assisting the MD as needed.
- Ensures patient has appropriate discharge instructions for local anesthesia post-operatively and is accompanied by a responsible adult upon discharge.
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including equipment sterilization.
- Focus on product sales with every patient (speaking to the patients regarding skincare products and providing them with product information).
- Confers with Physicians and Nurses regarding patient procedure and treatment plans.
- Provides support to Front Desk by answering phones and scheduling patients. Solicits front desk staff to determine need for assistance at Reception when all Back Office duties are addressed.
- Collect co-pays and payments for cosmetic services, provides patient receipts for all monies collected. Adheres to office cash accountability procedures.
- Assists with scheduling of patients' tests and treatments.
- Retrieves and prepares charts daily for following day's patients.
- Orders and maintains clinical supplies as needed, including cosmetic/injectables and laser disposables. Ensures no supplies "out of stock" and takes steps to avoid last minute rush orders.
- Ensures lasers are maintained and in working order, by performing preventive maintenance per manufacturer's instructions and by testing at least one day prior to scheduled treatments.
- Draws, mixes and injects topical/injectable anesthetic agents (lidocaine, epinephrine, etc.) per physician's orders; appropriately labels drawn syringes and/or mixed medications.
- Cleaning and spore testing of autoclave, adhering to scheduled maintenance and maintains records of the same.
- Monitors expiration dates on medications and samples, maintains date check records.
- Maintenance of biopsy book, slides, and pathology log/reports; records results in patient charts.
- Processes Rx refills in compliance with established procedures; ensures authorization for prescriptions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Proven working experience as an LVN
- Dermatology experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical office management systems and procedures
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Social perceptiveness and service oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and patient management software, Nextech
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school
- Dermatology experience highly desired. MOHS and/or procedural dermatology experience a plus
- Able to work in a fast paced environment with high patient count volume
