X-Ray Technician - La Jolla, California

Compensation: $28 - $32 / hour

About the Job Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Applies established and accepted radiographic protocols for optimal patient care.

Typical Physical Demands

Work may require standing for long periods of time; also sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching to provide patient care. Occasional lifting supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. Occasionally assisting patients with weight bearing up to 100 lbs. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to assist in general clinical or orthopedic functions, operation of a computer keyboard, telephone, FAX, copier and other office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on a computer and work in an environment which can be fast paced and demanding.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office/clinical area. Involves contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.

Summary of Learning or Educational Requirements

Duties to Include but Not limited To:

  1. Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures.
  1. Assists in maintaining records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.

  2. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunction.

  3. Provides input for equipment purchase and supply decisions.

  4. Participates in the department’s quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties in the assigned area.

  5. Responsible for the control of the inventory and purchase of supplies for the assigned area.

  6. Maintains knowledge of and observes Universal precautions.

  7. Understands and applies patient relations skills.

  8. Pursues appropriate continuing education.

  9. Maintains radiographic file system; dates and logs films in file box and radiographic jacket.

  10. Maintains a file system of ‘outside” films

  11. Maintains a system for release of SDMOG films to outside sources.

  12. Maintains a “technique” chart for substituting technicians.
