The Role

Residential energy products are a critical component of this mission enabling customers to generate, store, and consume sustainable energy to power their lives. Energy at Tesla is a rapidly growing part of the overall business with products like Powerwall, PV Inverter, Backup Switch, Gateway, and Solar Roof providing a seamless clean energy experience for customers.
We are seeking someone who is hardworking and passionate about solving the climate problem. In parallel, you must show evidence of sustained excellence in being an effective leader who brings creativity and drive to complex problems. In this role you'll be expected to leverage your thorough software engineering understanding, as well as knowledge of the global residential energy storage market to identify, scope, and prioritize key software products and features in conjunction with the engineering team to build our B2B customer software development roadmap. This role requires coordination between many different groups internal and external to Tesla, collaborating across teams such as software product engineering, sales, business development, aggregation, and our partners themselves to ensure the successful development and sustained improvement of our products.
Responsibilities
- Identify and define the requirements for our software product features across the global markets that Tesla Energy operates in, driving increased product adoption in new geographies and market segments
- Set software feature priorities and timelines for the global Residential Energy business, analyzing the customer experience, financial, and sales impact of different features to provide data-driven recommendations to engineering teams
- Use fleet, customer, and market data to make recommendations on software product and feature decisions / tradeoffs that must be regularly prioritized
- Own energy software technical competitive analysis that informs the engineering teams, while continuously evaluating other storage providers' platforms and features
- Support product marketing and technical documentation creation
- Act as the technical support point of contact for our global customers and sales teams
- Continuously gather B2B customer and installer feedback to drive feature decisions
- Regularly communicate software feature roadmap updates to global sales and operations teams
- Drive action & accountability from key operations and engineering stakeholders to meet business priorities
- Provide visibility and engage leadership on key timeline risks, product tradeoffs, issues, and decisions
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent
- Direct experience in software development and interfacing with engineering teams
- Experience in software and firmware development for connected devices
- Strong knowledge of global energy storage markets and experience working directly with sales and business development teams
- Strong knowledge of solar, energy storage, API tools, telemetry and energy monitoring platforms
- A relentless drive to make things happen, without accepting the status quo
- Ability to operate independently, bringing solutions and prioritization to complex problems
- Experience and comfort working with large datasets to drive decision making
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

Expected Compensation $92,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
