Position Description
The City of Tacoma Fire Department is currently seeking a motivated, analytical, and professional person who is interested in the challenging and varied work of an Asset & Inventory Analyst for the Finance Division. This position will play an essential role in the following functions:
Develop and maintain replacement schedules of assets to be used for budgetary, contracting, and planning purposes – incorporating replacement & purchasing projections for assigned assets, including modeling costs, cost increases, recommended replacement cycles, and planned disposition
Prepare and/or review procurement actions and contracts
Monitor spending on assigned contracts and renew/amend to ensure no lapse in procurement
Monitor contract and vendor performance and adjust as necessary, including developing and maintaining positive and professional working relationships with vendors and contractors
Develop and maintain an electronic inventory of assigned assets to provide reporting of items and their current value, condition, and location – assigned assets include uniforms and personnel protective equipment for firefighters, small equipment items, and other items
In addition, this position may be assigned special projects for the department – these projects will require analytical or data-based decision-making skills and could range from researching policy or operational recommendations to preparing conclusions from datasets for performance or financials. An incumbent in this position will be expected to act as a subject matter expert for their assigned tasks, be an independent problem solver, analyze data, and prepare and present findings and documents to manager-level positions.
This position will have an option for a flex work schedule, including telework. Some tasks will need to be completed away from the regular work location so the ideal candidate must be flexible and successfully adjust to a new work environment and maintain productivity.
Working conditions are primarily in an indoor, office environment at Tacoma Fire Department's buildings, however some work may be done outside in non climate-controlled units. This position will pack/unpack deliveries, move and sort inventory, and require some periods of standing and bending.
Schedule requires the ability to work normal office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). This position may have an option to telework for a portion of the week so must have a functional space in their home for computer equipment.
Positions in this class typically require:
remaining in a stationary position for 90% of the time with occasional movement to access office files, machinery and similar productivity tools (standing, sitting, walking).
constant operation of a computer, as well as use of a calculator, printer and similar office tools (fingering, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions).
communication and the exchange of information with others.
occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force to move, transport or position objects.
Work may also occasionally require:
movement around the workplace to pick up objects (stooping, walking, reaching).

The Community
Tacoma is a mid-sized urban port city that sits along the Puget Sound with a population of over 210,000. The third largest city in the state of Washington, it is a diverse, progressive, international gateway to the Pacific Rim.
Propelled by significant development such as the University of Washington Tacoma, the Tacoma Link light rail system, the restored urban waterfront of the Thea Foss Waterway, the expansions of both the MultiCare and Franciscan health systems, and a significant influx of foreign direct investment in its downtown core, Tacoma has evolved considerably since the 1990s.
Tacoma boasts the state's highest density of art and history museums and is home to a flourishing creative community of writers, artists, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, chefs, entrepreneurs, and small business owners who each add their unique flair to the city's vibrant commercial landscape. The iconic Tacoma Dome has endured as a high-demand venue for some of the largest names in the entertainment industry.
Tacoma's natural beauty and proximity to the Puget Sound and Mount Rainier draws hikers, runners, bicyclists, and maritime enthusiasts to the area. Its lively social scene is infused with energy by thousands of students attending the University of Washington Tacoma, the University of Puget Sound, the Evergreen State College Tacoma campus, and Tacoma Community College, as well as a number of local trade and technical colleges. Its prime location – just 20 minutes south of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, 30 miles north of the state capital in Olympia, and within 10 miles of the U.S. Department of Defense's premier military installation on the West Coast – only adds to Tacoma's desirability.
