Summary
We are recruiting for a Senior Environmental Engineer. This role manages projects and processes to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and programs. Projects and processes that will improve the energy utility efficiency of the company are also managed. Engineering support is provided to the Live Operations Group. Additional engineering support is provided to company operations and disaster team activities as needed. Support other project managers as needed.
This position may be remote mid-Atlantic to southeast regions within 2.5 hours of Perdue Locations. Travel Requirement: 50% - 75%.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides a safe, secure and productive work environment for our associates at all Company sites.
- Manages all construction sites and contractors in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Determines the environmental needs for new and existing company facilities.
- Manages the design and construction of these additions and modifications.
- Assists Environmental Managers in the areas of wastewater, water supply, sludge management, air quality, solid waste, hazardous waste, storm water and recycling.
- Conducts engineering review of SPCC, SWPPP, and NESHAP plans.
- Provides engineering support to the Live Operations group.
- Works with feed mill managers, hatchery managers, and grow out associates to improve the processes and supports their capital plan as needed.
- Provides guidance to the Directors of Operations and their management teams in developing solutions and budgets for improving processes, maintaining facilities, and innovative problem solving related to environmental compliance.
Minimum Education And Experience Required
BS degree or equivalent related work experience in Mechanical, Agricultural, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related discipline plus 6-8 years related work experience is required.
- Technical experience in construction, environmental regulations, and poultry processing equipment, feed mill equipment, hatchery equipment project management, and energy utility consumption is a must.
- Demonstrated competency in problem solving, negotiating, managing people, and establishing and meeting schedules is required.
- Must be able to travel to remote facilities and/or offices for meetings. Frequent plant and project site visits are required; travel is extensive 50% to 75%.
- Must have adequate computer skills with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
Experience Preferred
Professional Engineer License, Water and Wastewater Operations Experience, Certified Energy Manager
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- This position is active. Work activity is at the project and plant sites. On the floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine.
- May need to move equipment occasionally.
- May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
- Work activity may take place at any company facility.
- Work environment includes, but is not limited to, a normal office environment and construction site as well as climate extremes found in a poultry processing operation, feed mill, hatchery and a waste water treatment facility.
- Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces, permitted areas, and at heights over 100 feet.
- Must be able to work on and or around operating equipment.
- Must be trained and use Lockout/Tagout
When in a plant environment:
- Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
- May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
- May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
- May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, and processing functions.
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job, as directed by the Company
