Hybrid:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
Quality liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning and provide technical support. Work is of a technical nature using independent decision-making within the limits of general practices and standards. Some mentorship from the supervisor is available to handle unusual situations.
Work involves functioning as technical liaison between Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Containerization, GM Assembly / Manufacturing plants and suppliers to facilitate verification that a supplier’s manufacturing process (while operating under normal operating conditions and under total customer requirement) is capable of producing the contracted daily capacity of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) approved (full or interim) components, systems, or modules. Applies diversified knowledge of manufacturing processes to support product launches, increase existing capacity, and/or business transfer. Considerable creativity and initiative are required. Independent judgment is normally required with some direction from the supervisor. Will exercise some technical direction over others.
What You'll Do:
Execute APQP process with those Suppliers assigned to meet or exceed program work. Execute program reviews to program milestones and escalate issues appropriately. Ensure supply base adheres to GM standards and quality and manufacturing processes are enabled identify out of standards conditions while preventing them to move to the next process or manufacturing site. React to out of standard conditions are work cross functionally to resolve known issues in a timely manner. Travel up to 75% to Supplier Manufacturing sites to ensure robust quality plans are in place. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
Bachelor’s degree or Technical degree or equivalent experience (ME, IE)
Minimum 10 years of automotive industry experience
Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing, quality or engineering including experience in implementing advanced quality planning processes
Train and/or assist current and new SQE’s and suppliers in the proper use of Capacity Analysis, including SQMS tools
Completes detailed capacity analysis, independently or as a member of a team, on a supplier’s manufacturing system
Communicates capacity analysis results, countermeasures, and action plans to internal and external groups
Effectively implements and/or executes recovery of countermeasures and action plans
Maintain/Track program R@R issues to closure and effectively communicate status internally and externally
Demonstrated expertise in assembly, fabricating, and component manufacturing processes (Interior, Exterior, Chassis / Thermal & Propulsion parts)
Demonstrated expertise in tooling and process analysis.
Demonstrated expertise in investigating complex capacity problems and applying sound technical judgment to develop possible solutions.
Ability to travel (25 - 50%, daily commutable and overnight combined)
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Strong computer literacy skills, using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
Ability to learn and become proficient in multiple GM systems (SQMS, SmartSearch, Capacity Tool, Insight, ECM, GDiMPS, etc.)
Understanding of continuous improvement principles (TOC, Lean Manufacturing, etc.)
Overall flexibility due to frequent plan changes driven by unforeseen capacity issue
Desirable course work would include manufacturing systems
Excellent communication and command skills
