The Prospect Researcher performs in-depth research on prospects. Conducts research and works with confidential as well as publicly accessible information, with a view to assessing donor interest and viability. Develops research profiles and analysis, prospect lists, ratings and wealth analysis for purposes of fundraising for St. Luke's.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proactively identify new sources of funding for capital and programmatic projects as defined by Network priorities
Identify, research, compile, and synthesize biographical, financial, professional, charitable interests and priorities, relationship to St. Luke’s University Health Network, giving history, and capacity-to-give information on individual, foundation and corporate prospects; analyze trends, interpret and enter information into Raiser’s Edge database, and assist with prospect strategies
Keep abreast of donors and prospects in the news, philanthropic trends, and SLUHN current events and fundraising priorities
Propose strategy for electronic screenings of database; determine screening population; interpret results and share with leadership
Analyze, interpret and summarize complex information into a coherent and accurate presentation. Perform different types and levels of research and work under strict deadlines
Create strategies for identifying new prospects and keeping current prospect ratings accurate
Participate in appropriate professional organizations and conferences; attend sessions of other organizations (APRA, AASP, Blackbaud, etc.) as appropriate; develop network of professional contacts; participate in electronic mailing lists (i.e. PRSPCT-L) focusing on prospect research and fundraising issues
Keep current with industry trends and implement useful new approaches, services and tools. Advocate the highest standards of performance and ethical behavior as related to prospect research and donor/prospect confidentiality. Support the mission and ethics statement of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), Advisory Board, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Basic office environment; travel away from the central office is minimal; must work for long periods of time sitting at a computer
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree required. Master’s or advanced degree preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of five years of experience working prospect research. Possess understanding of fundraising concepts. Prior experience, preferably in a health sciences or higher education setting. Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge software, Windows- and network-based electronic environments, a variety of online databases, the Internet, and printed materials
