On-Call Lifeguard
Job Summary:
The Lifeguard improves the safety of all participants to reduce the risk of injury and/or drowning. The Lifeguard plays an instrumental role in also maintaining the safety of the pool environment, including constant monitoring of the pool deck and locker room. A successful Lifeguard assesses situations swiftly, and make judicious decisions regarding the safety of swimmers. Top candidates are excellent communicators, swift and safety-minded.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises swimming activities and ensures that policies, guidelines and safety procedures are followed.
- Warns swimmer of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
- Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure they are safe and usable.
- Reports individual swimmer concerns directly to Director of Wellbeing.
Physical Demands:
- The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or chair lift controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to perform all on-deck and in-water duties as needed.
- Lifeguard must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- While performing job duties, the employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb the pool ladder, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch (ex. put on ankle weights for members).
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Ability to see and hear noises in the aquatic environment as well as ability to recognize swimmers who are in distress.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is an on-call or substitute position.
Required Qualifications:
American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification
CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications
