FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT (NOT ELIGIBLE FOR OVERTIME)
NATURE OF WORK
The Tennis/Racket Center Manager is an administrative position responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Mt. Lebanon Tennis/Racket Center. This position is responsible for the overall creation and direction of a successful year-round tennis and racket sports instructional, social, and competitive program. Work includes planning, publicizing, staffing, scheduling, and supervising all services and facilities related to tennis and racket sports. Work is performed with considerable independent judgement under the general supervision of the Director of Recreation. This is a year-round full-time position requiring the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Recruits, selects, trains, schedules, and supervises full and part-time employees and evaluates their performance.
- Manages the tennis and racket sports-related aspects of the recreation software system and provides financial and statistical reports.
- Manages Pro Shop providing high-quality merchandise and services and is responsible for inventory controls.
- Recommends to the Recreation Director general policies and practices related to the daily operation of the center and develops five-year strategic plans for tennis center building and grounds improvements.
- Develops annual written marketing and capital improvement plans.
- Oversees daily court maintenance and plans and supervises annual Har-Tru court renewal contract.
- Plans and oversees installing and removing the bubbles annually.
- Prepares fee schedule and annual tennis center budget. Ensures the center is achieving its financial goals.
- Plans and implements advertising, public appearances, and special event programs to stimulate interest in and use of the tennis center facilities.
- Works directly with numerous user groups and leagues to maximize use, manage schedules and collect user fees.
- Prepares requests for proposals and license agreements. Oversees vendor operations, including vendor renewal activities.
- Develops and supervises tennis and racket sports programs and activities for all age groups.
- Supervise all play and enforce facility rules and regulations. Recommend revisions to rules and regulations.
- Prepare and supervise schedule of court availability that balances the requirements of lessons, programming, league play and open play.
- Work with organizers of approved tournaments for a successful tournament experience.
- Prepare reports (financial and utilization) as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with recreation department activities and special events as needed.
- Performs all other work assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS , AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of clay court construction, maintenance, and operation.
- Strong supervisory, management, organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation.
- Knowledge of merchandising and accounting functions.
- Clear understanding of tennis and racket sports and related programming.
- Clear understanding of personnel management.
- Knowledge of common computer programs and office machines, including Microsoft 365 and athletic scheduling software. (Peak SportsMan software system).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, recreation, marketing, or related field and a minimum of three years’ experience in the racket sports industry with emphasis placed on facilities management, program management, court maintenance, and human resource management OR the equivalent education, certification and/or experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Extensive experience developing, organizing, and conducting racket sports events and programs.
- USPTA or PTR certification preferred.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop; use hands to handle, or feel equipment and supplies.
- The employee will need to be able to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time, including walking the premises of the Mt. Lebanon Tennis/Racket Center. The employee is required to sit at times at a desk and operate office equipment.
- The employee must regularly lift tables, chairs, tents or other objects and move up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
- Requires normal range of hearing, eyesight, and verbal communications to supervise, record, prepare and communicate appropriate activities.
- The essential job functions are required to be performed in person at the Tennis/Racket Center, including in person interaction with Tennis/Racket Center patrons and employees.
