Position Summary
Cook is responsible to prepare and cook delicious, nutritional and healthy meals.

Responsibilities
1. Prepares and cooks meals for all customers

  1. Creates, prepares and cooks a wide variety of meals within acceptable Food Handling guidelines and recipes.
  2. Prepares customized meals that meets dietary restrictions as needed.
  3. Determines serving sizes and estimates quantity of food supply requirements and costs.
  4. Determines proper cooking time and temperature.
  5. Plans menus for occasional breakfast, daily lunch, dinner and special events.
  6. Design, develop and introduce new culinary ideas to team members and customers
  7. Plan food tasting events with team, other staff and selected customers on occasion.
  8. Works cooperatively with all team members to ensure all food preparation is completed in a timely manner, food, beverage and hospitality services are conducted efficiently and proper supplies and equipment are readily  available
2.  Manages the meal preparation for different culinary programs and  activities
  1. Takes inventory of supplies on hand and communicates orders for food supplies, ingredients, other consumables and paper products on a scheduled basis as determined by menu and estimated number of clients to Team Leader.
  2. Support the inspection of food and other supplies delivered for quantity and quality
  3. Identify inferior food supplies for rejects or returns at the time of delivery as well as, in advance of food preparation and report findings to Food, Beverage and Hospitality Manager.
  4. Unpacks and stores supplies in refrigerator, freezer, cupboards and other storage areas according to Safe Food Handling guidelines.
  5. Monitors all ready-to-serve food items and ensures proper temperature according to the Safe Food Handling guidelines.
  6. Logs daily temperature of appliance, food etc. at different intervals and submit weekly report to Supervisor.
  7. Coordinates meal preparation for variety patrons, events, meetings, special events. Ensures waste management practices are followed, such as weighing, logging and reporting food waste.
  8. Provide weekly report on culinary activities using the prescribed reporting process with the Food, Beverage and Hospitality Services Department.

3. Performs other support duties

  1. Reports to supervisor about all existing or potential hygiene and safety hazards and risks.
  2. Maintains kitchen equipment, reports to supervisor about needs of purchase, necessary repairs, and any safety concerns in a timely manner.
  3. Cleans and sanitizes all food preparation equipment and ensures they are kept in safe and operable condition on a daily basis
  4. Works cooperatively with staff and volunteers to ensure quality Food, Beverage and Hospitality Services are delivered efficiently to everyone.
  5. Provides back up to other culinary staff in the kitchen during absences.
  6. Reports to supervisor about any food services related issues for quality improvement.
  7. Attends and participates in the organization’s all staff meetings, department meetings, team meetings, training and other planned activities.
  8. Maintains confidentiality of personal information of staff, volunteers and customers.
4. Promotes safety of customers, self and others
  1. Complies with and conforms to all legislated safety regulations and related policies such as Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
  2. Performs work safely according to departmental and organization procedures and policies and ensures safety of self and others.
  3. Follows and adheres to safe food handling, preparation, storage and sanitation standards based on Safe Food Handling guidelines
  4. ​​ Promotes food safety before, during and after food preparation by observing, tasting, smelling, inspecting, testing and documenting to enable quality and delicious meals.
  5. Ensures safety of all customers by maintaining hygiene and timeliness of Food Beverage and Hospitality Services
  6. Uses equipment, materials and protective devices in safe manner as required and performs pre-use start-up inspections of equipment.
  7. Inspects kitchen environment to ensure practices are meeting health and safety standards for team members, customers on regular basis.
