Status: Part-Time, 5 hours/week
Duration: 1-year renewable contract

ACT-UAW Local 7902, the union for NYU adjuncts and New School part-time faculty, student workers, and health service employees, is seeking a Data Analyst to join our team. Formed in 2002, our union has been at the forefront of organizing contingent instructors and student workers in higher ed. We are seeking to hire a Data Analyst who can compile, evaluate, and offer meaningful insight into large data sets derived from multiple sources. The Data Analyst’s work will support the local’s organizing and contract enforcement efforts.

The local collects a tremendous amount of information from multiple sources that are used towards varied ends. We receive several large data sets from employers on a monthly and semesterly basis. The local also receives data sets from employers on one-off bases for grievance handling and bargaining. Additionally, the local stores information related to contract enforcement and organizing derived from multiple human sources: union representatives, union stewards, elected bargaining committees, union staff, and rank-and-file members, to name a few. The local uses this information to assist with bargaining, enforce existing CBAs, and for organizing purposes.

The data analyst will work with reps, staff, stewards, and rank-and-file members to collate the information described above, perform analyses as needed and as time allows, and offer meaningful insight into the data.

Requirements:

• UAW member in good standing for at least 6 months
• Familiarity with Google Sheets and Strong knowledge of Google Sheets Functions
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience working with a team of people.
• Ability to analyze data using Google Sheet functions and/or a programming language

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with higher education employment
• Experience with labor organizing
• Basic SQL competency.
• Experience writing programming scripts in Python or another language commonly used for scripting (Ruby, JavaScript, Groovy, etc.) to manipulate and analyze large data sets.
• Familiarity with Google Visualization API Query Language.
• Experience visualizing data.
• Experience with RESTful web development, specifically using JSON or XML in conjunction with online APIs for data visualization purposes. (E.g. ability to use Graph Commons API to visualize organizing data.)

This position will be primarily remote.
