Broad HR Unit Administrator

Position Summary

The Eli Broad College of Business is seeking a highly collaborative, extremely responsive, detail-oriented, and technologically savvy HR Unit Administrator.  You would be responsible for a wide array of HR functions across the college. The ideal candidate would be a valuable member of the Broad College of Business HR Team, with regular collaboration with various teams and departments within the college and across the university to facilitate HR functions and processes including recruitment, hiring, onboarding/offboarding, training and professional development, employee recognition/appreciation, and retention.

The HR team impacts and directly contributes to a positive work environment that employees want to be a part of; through creation and implementation of programs that ensure a safe and respectful work environment with equitable and inclusive practices.

The Broad College of Business is home to six academic units, the Dean’s office, five research centers, institutes and other supporting units with 260 full-time employees and enrollment of nearly 5,000 students who choose The Eli Broad College as their home away from home. 

In this position, you have the opportunity for a hybrid working schedule with three days per week in-office. Remote work agreements are continuously reviewed based on office needs, training, and schedules within the organization.

This position will enjoy a variety of tasks and projects including but not limited to:

Administer and coordinate recruitment and search processes.

Advise search committees on best practices, hiring decisions, and offer negotiations.

Assess and implement recruitment and placement practices to ensure robust diverse talent pools.

Interview prospective employees.

Coordinate The Broad College new employee orientation, onboarding, and offboarding programs.

Maintain performance and probationary timelines and materials.

Identify training needs and opportunities.

Develop and conduct training plans and programs.

Develop and maintain employee recognition and appreciation programs.

Contribute, assess, and advise on opportunities for improvement.

Serve as liaison between the Dean’s Office and central offices (MSU-HR, the Payroll Office and etc.).

Advise on employment law, Broad College and university policies and procedures, as well as various bargaining agreements.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, or field related to the employing unit; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in managing human resource functions, designing and implementing training programs and human resource/labor relations management and computer applicants; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience related to the field of employment.  

Three to five years of HR Generalist experience.

Experience leading multiple initiatives, tasks, and projects.

Experience working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with University systems including SAP, Kuali Financial System, and Business Intelligence; experience with COMPASS system; experience assisting in developing policies and procedures surrounding Human Resources and related business functions; knowledge of University policies and procedures, especially in the field of Human Resources; experience in a service based work environment; experience in performance management, job classifications, compensation, professional development, and employee relations; demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, taking initiative, working as a part of a team, and learning for continuous self-improvement. The ideal candidate will have three-five years professional experience in the human resources area.

Higher Education human resources experience. Experience recruiting and hiring various employee types: faculty, academic staff, support staff, temporary/on-call, and student employees. 

Experience using Page Up or similar applicant tracking systems. Strong service mentally. Creative and energetic approach to engaging and recognizing employees. Practical knowledge related to integrating DEI throughout HR practices.
