Job description

Position: Certified Surgical Tech 
Location: Rochester, NY

Job Summary: The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for providing support to surgeons and other medical staff during surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operating room, arranging surgical equipment, and ensuring that all instruments are sterile and ready for use. The CST assists in patient preparation and positioning and maintains a sterile environment throughout the surgery. Additionally, the CST may be responsible for tasks such as passing instruments to the surgeon, holding retractors, and suturing incisions under the direction of the surgeon.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment and instruments are sterile and ready for use.
2. Assist with patient preparation, including positioning and draping.
3. Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and other medical staff during surgeries.
4. Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, following established protocols and guidelines.
5. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly to requests for additional instruments or supplies.
6. Assist with wound closure, including suturing incisions and applying dressings.
7. Collaborate with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient and safe patient care.
8. Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures.
9. Document all procedures accurately and maintain patient records as required.
10. Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with advancements in surgical technology and procedures.

Qualifications:

1. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from an accredited program.
2. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
3. Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and techniques.
4. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
5. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
6. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a sterile environment.
7. Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift/move heavy equipment.
8. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
