The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Jackson Wellness Center provides nutrition education and counseling for individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life. These activities include: screening client nutritional status, assessing laboratory values and other pertinent information, developing appropriate medical nutrition therapy care plans, consulting with other health care professionals (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, etc.), participating in departmental and interdisciplinary quality improvement activities, and assessing nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and nutritional counseling. Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics which is an American Dietetic Association (ADA) approved undergraduate program. Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Undergraduate (CUP), or Master’s Degree with qualifying work experience. Experience: Prior hospital experience desired. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: REGISTRATION: Must have current registration with American Dietetic Association (ADA) or be eligible to take the ADA Registration Exam. Must pass the registration exam within two successive attempts. LICENSURE: If not licensed in the state of Alabama, must apply to the state Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice within 30 days of hire. Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Nutrition/diet manuals, menus, computers, calculators, nutrition education literature/visuals, and related reference/research books, periodicals, and publications. Specialized Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer and calculator usage skills. Work requires knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to various age specific populations. Physical Requirements: Good hearing and visual acuity. Ability to communicate verbally, in writing, and by means of computer. Physical stamina to walk and stand for long periods of time.Job tags
