Job Description DS8K Contractor:
- IBM has a world class EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) lab located in Rochester MN that supports product testing from nearly every IBM development site. EMC testing exists to ensure that electronic devices do not emit large amount of electromagnetic interference, known as conductive and radiated emissions. For example, when a blow dryer is turned on and interferes with TV reception, that is a simple form EMC interference.
- Engineering duties are conducting and analyzing tests for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), which is the ability of an equipment or system to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment (immunity) without introducing intolerable electromagnetic disturbances (emissions) to anything in that environment. The engineer must understand and be proficient in performing the following test and analyzing the results.
- IBM has an immediate need for an EMC Engineer with IBM EMC and DS8K skills. The Engineer will setup EMC testing of IBM DS8K which will include verifying calibration of test equipment and troubleshooting equipment such as spectrum analyzers, pre- amplifiers, antennas, EMI probes, and oscilloscopes.
- Engineer will work as part of a team that will certify DS8K for worldwide compliance. Prior EMC experience and knowledge is a must have. Engineer will perform low level OS configuration and support for all IT equipment during testing.
Required skills.
- Prior Experience in the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design and testing
- IBM Certified for EMC testing.
- Expert with DS8K Radiated Emission testing.
- Expert with DS8K Radiated Electromagnetic Susceptibility
- Experience with DS8K High Frequency Emissions
- Experience with DS8K Low-Frequency Emissions
- Experience with DS8K Electrostatic Discharge
- Experience with DS8K Conducted Emission
- Experience with DS8K Conducted Immunity
- Experience with DS8K Telecom Emission
- Experience with DS8K Power line Disturbance
- Experience with DS8K Electrical Fast Transient
- Experience with DS8K Voltage Dip
- Experience with DS8K Electrical Surge
- Experience with DS8K Harmonics and Flickers
- Experience with DS8K Power Magnetic Frequency Test
- Hands-on work or school laboratory experience in RF, antenna, shielding, and/or compatibility testing and design.
- Tests are conducted, and data analyzed to ensure IT equipment meets or exceeds international standards for EMC. Additional IBM tests that exceed international standards will also be conducted. Engineer will review results of test with peer engineers and development engineers for product improvements.
- Basic knowledge in the use of oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and other electrical test equipment.
- Basic knowledge in Linux/Unix operating systems
- Well versed in using Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong teamworking skills
- Hands-on work or school laboratory experience in RF, antenna, shielding, and/or compatibility testing and design.
- Linux/Unix scripting & programming
