We’re seeking a Director, Media Strategy. A Director, Media Strategy leads development of media strategies, plans and campaign activation to achieve client objectives. Drives innovation at both the strategic and campaign level. Builds relationships with internal and external teams and manages relationships with vendors, setting expectations and confirming they are met.
Candidates must reside in a commutable distance to one of The Mars Agency's hub locations: Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, New York, Denver, Minneapolis, Bentonville, Dallas or Nashville.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the end-to-end national consumer promotions (CP) planning process from strategy through activation for a Tier 1 CPG client with management of a small team.
- Identify shopper and CP media trends, including innovation in the space (i.e. metaverse, web3, social commerce, digital incentives, etc) and incorporate this future forward thinking into our strategy, planning and thought leadership.
- Serve as an authority on communications planning with ability to think creatively and bring ideas forward in brainstorms, as well as work well with numbers to quantify impact and measurement of plans, investment strategies, and ensure flawless execution.
- Build relationships with clients; work seamlessly on a daily basis with clients throughout
campaign development and implementation, resolving any issues with regards to changes in direction, campaign goals and budgets. - Work effectively and efficiently with internal and external strategic media partners and internal teams to develop integrated, cross-platform shopper media strategies and plans.
- Own the investment strategy, reporting and measurement of all CP plans.
- Evaluate media opportunities on a variety of criteria and demonstrate sound judgement in the allocation of clients’ shopper media investments.
- Negotiate with vendor partners to obtain media availability and placement, advantageous rates and added value; evaluate appropriate media opportunities for achieving client objectives.
- Act as a liaison between the media and account team to ensure that project milestones, timelines, plan approvals, and deliverables are met.
- Monitor and track media spend, compare against client budget, and alert team and client of any discrepancies.
SKILLSETS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10-12+ years of media experience working in an agency setting
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to communicate and present at senior corporate levels
- Must have a strong level of understanding of multiple media channels; shopper, digital and traditional
- Able to communicate clearly, thoroughly, succinctly and in a timely manner both verbally and in writing; follow up on outstanding issues; ask questions
- Keen attention to detail with strong mathematical and Microsoft Office/ Google skills including expert proficiency in applications such as Excel/Sheets and PowerPoint/Slides.
- Able to build relationships across the team, department, vendors and clients
- Proactive approach, demonstrated by: Providing regular project timeline and budget updates to team/supervisor
- Anticipating potential problems and obstacles to project success, communicating concerns and potential solutions with team
- Developing an understanding of new/emerging media developments and sharing with the broader team internally
- Able to review results and performance of paid media campaigns based on predetermined success indicators, determine effectiveness and report back to client
