The Rx Clinical Programs Pharmacy Technician Representative 2/ Pharmacy Compound Technician Assists the Pharmacist by filling physician orders for medications for oral and injectable use; mixes IV admixture solutions as required using aseptic technique in the Laminar Air Flow hood or biological hood; type labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties.
- Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other companies' personnel.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures under appropriate sterile conditions including appropriate attire and safety conditions.
- Prepares chemotherapeutic medication under appropriate sterile conditions including appropriate attire and safety conditions.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.
- Aids in the training of Pharmacy Technician students or new employees.
- Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, and know to consult with the Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise.
- Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
- Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner.
- Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.
- Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations.
- Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understanding to conduct instruction furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
- Demonstrates ability to deal with problems involving several variables in particular situations.
- Recognizes inappropriate dosing based in available dosage forms for various age groups.
- Performs assigned quality control activities on schedule.
- Performs assigned training activities successfully.
- Maintains professional, helpful, and courteous relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Assist with activities to ensure compliance with all state and The Joint Commission (TJC) record maintenance requirements
- Maintains and records all applicable pharmacy logs
- Performs all required cleaning and disinfecting tasks in the pharmacy area, ante room, chemo room and buffer room, including shelves, equipment's, LAFHs, etc. Cleaning operations are performed following scheduled policies and procedure.
- Performs all cleaning, organizing and maintenance of pharmacy area, including counter, medication shelves, transporting carts, etc. Cleaning operations are performed following scheduled policies and procedure.
- Compounded Sterile Preparations:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill ensuring that pharmaceutical preparations are prepared under the strictest sterile conditions, properly packaged, labeled, and stored, and not outdated.
- Ensures compliance with USP <797> by following proper cleaning policies in cleaning lab and compounding devices.
- Media Fill Test: The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed.
- Ensures compliance with USP <797> by following proper garbing and hand washing procedure

Regulatory Requirements:
- One (1) year related pharmacy experience and graduate of certified training pharmacy technician school. Certification required.
- Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education, experience, or subsequent training.
- Appropriate certificates or licenses required for the position. Must be Registered and Certified Pharmacy Technicians (RPhT and CPhT).
- Language and Other Skills, Physical Demands:
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Automated pharmacy systems.
- Demonstrates IV Laminar Flow Hood, proficiency preparing within chemo hood.
