Job description

Position Summary:

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will engage in ongoing research projects studying the enzymology of motor proteins involved in ribosome biogenesis.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• As directed, perform various research/technical operations relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the lab.
• Lead hands-on research projects on enzymology and ribosome biogenesis.
• Interface with collaborators and participate in collaborative research projects.
• Design and carry out single-molecule biophysical assays on force-producing enzymes (training provided for magnetic and optical tweezers).
• Recombinantly express and purify proteins using bacterial and insect cell systems.
• Perform quantitative, time-resolved biochemical and enzymatic assays.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Bioengineering or a similar relevant science.
• Prior research experience and knowledge of protein biochemistry is an asset.

• Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements.

Salary: $48,324/annual
