Job Summary
The internship position with SABIC Corporate T&I’s High Performance Materials group will have the focus areas of novel polymeric material development, material characterization & testing, and processing. Interns will be assigned to a specific lab and project team where they will conduct research experiments. This opportunity will allow them to gain work experience with various R&D professionals at SABIC.
How You Can Be the Impact
Work closely with existing project teams to develop new polymers resins, blends, and addtives, under the supervision of project leaders;
Melt process, mold, and characterize & test polymer formulations to assess additive’s efficacy in certain aspects of polymeric material properties such as reducing thermo-oxidative degradation of polymers, improving flame retardancy performance etc.;
Melt process, mold, and characterize & test polymer formulations to assess new polymer blend system’s efficacy in improving certain materials properties such as optical, rheological, and mechanical properties;
Establish inclusive and early partnerships with analytical technology team to proactively plan and gain inputs on development of new polymeric materials;
Where appropriate use statistical design of experiments to deliver high and consistent material performance;
Use creativity, commitment and drive in the rigor required to develop new materials from technical ideas to laboratory-scale technical solutions
What Matters to SABIC
Ability to conduct hands-on experimentation ranging from melt processing, molding, physical & mechanical property testing, and various characterizations;
Engage in project team meeting to share results and draw conclusions for next steps in development;
Ability to draw conclusions from data to propose next steps in research;
Currently pursuing a PhD in Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or other relevant disciplines;
Ability to solve relevant technical problems in the field of study with an appropriate use of experimental design and statistical analysis.
Excellent technical, verbal and written communication skills; able to deliver technical messages effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders;
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively work with individuals at across functional disciplines;
Creative, curious and motivated; demonstrated ability to appropriately leverage scientific knowledge and available resources to learn and grow technical/professional skills; or to develop awareness of new techniques/approaches while delivering excellent results
Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct experiments in research & development lab environments
