GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Piping Design Engineer to join our team. This position is full-time and will serve the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN.

Overview:
- Provide piping design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 3/Non-Nuclear and Balance of Plant facilities and Backbone Infrastructure Utilities.
- Provide design output documentation (drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.) to support minor facility modifications.
- Familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1.
- Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.
- Other activities include testing support, preparation of bills of material for cost estimating and man-hour estimates.
- Develop high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems.
- Design involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and man-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II engineering deliverables including preparation of calculations and analyses, construction specifications & drawings, and equipment specifications.
- Effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and will routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers.
- Perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
- Provides mechanical piping design support to the projects engineering group but could also involve existing facilities "Operations" design support as day-to day assignments can change due to shifting workloads and Facility needs.
- As needed, design support of existing process facilities could include minor modification designs, preparation of procurement documents and support, system change control support, system walkdowns, maintenance of configuration control documentation, maintenance/construction field support, test plans and startup support, and unit operations troubleshooting.
Clearance & Citizenship Requirement:
- To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
- Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is requ ired.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with design in systems such as potable water supply systems, gases, acid and caustic fluids, brines, cryogenics, steam and condensate, hot and chilled water systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and vacuum systems. Additional experience in performing computer hydraulic (steady-state and transient) analysis, computer pipe stress analysis, and support selection/design is desired.
- Experience with 3D modeling is desirable.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31 is also desirable.
- Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies ( energy.gov ) .

REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
- Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
- Must be willing to work in a production environment.
