Job description

Job description:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Riverside, is currently seeking applications for a postdoctoral-scholar appointment in the field of experimental nuclear physics.

The selected candidate will become a part of the CLAS12 collaboration, focusing on the preparation, execution, and analysis of results for experiment number E12-06117, which is scheduled to start in Spring 2024. This experiment involves a high-energy electron beam and nuclear targets. Our group aims to conduct a series of measurements for both single-hadron and dihadron final states in deep-inelastic scattering to investigate cold-nuclear matter effects. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to detector design and prototype test beam studies for the future Electron-Ion Collider. Our group is leading the development of the high-granularity calorimeter insert and the zero-degree calorimeter for the ePIC detector.

All candidates with experience in experimental nuclear or particle physics will be considered, provided they have less than 3 years of post-PhD experience at the time of hiring.

The appointed candidate is expected to be stationed at JLab and will be required to travel both domestically and internationally for conferences.

Salary will be commensurate with experience after the PhD, ranging from $64,480 to $77,327. Further details on benefits can be found in the University of California postdoc collective bargaining agreement (https://uaw5810.org/postdoc-contract/).

Interested applicants should submit a resume showcasing personal research achievements, a list of publications highlighting significant contributions, and a statement of research interests to Prof. Miguel Arratia ([email protected]). Additionally, applicants should arrange for at least 2 letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email address. The review of applications will commence immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
