Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the following table for the salary scale for this position: The current base range for this position is $41.67/hr - 90.23/hr. Off-scale salaries' which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
Percent time: 20%
Anticipated start: Spring 2024
Position duration: 24 months with the possibility of being extended subject to performance and budgetary approval.

Position description The Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley seeks a Project Scientist to work with Professor Wick Haxton and Researcher Associate /LBNL Staff Scientist Andre Walker-Loud, in the area of Fundamental Symmetry tests of the Standard Model, utilizing lattice QCD and Effective Field Theory.
The Project Scientist will be expected to carry out research under the supervision of Professor Wick Haxton and Research Associate /LBNL Staff Scientist Andre Walker-Loud, applying lattice QCD to 1) QED corrections to hadronic spectrum and matrix elements, 2) applying lattice QCD to calculations of the nucleon permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs), as part of the recently established Nuclear Theory for New Physics DOE Topical Collaboration. The successful candidate will be expected to make major contributions to this new research effort, and to help mentor postdocs and graduate students working with Prof. Haxton and Research Associate Walker-Loud.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD or equivalent international degree
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Minimum of ten years of postgraduate research experience, at least six of which were spent doing work with lattice QCD
Preferred qualifications - PhD degree in Physics,
- Experience leading significant lattice QCD projects
- Expertise in applying lattice QCD to the nucleon EDMs
- Expertise in incorporating QED effects in lattice QCD calculations
