Job description
General Description: This position is responsible for the accurate tracking of all College financial transactions in full compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, Federal and Commonwealth of Virginia statutes, regulations, and policies, and Virginia Community College System (VCCS) management standards. The controller will provide timely and accurate financial information and reports to executive management, VCCS System Office staff, and others. The Controller will work under the direction of the Vice President- Finance and Administration. Duties and Tasks:The Controller is responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day financial operations of the College including general ledger, monthly and year end close cycle, accounts payable and purchasing card, payroll, local cash management, grants accounting, auxiliary accounting, and capital project and fixed asset accounting.The Controller's responsibilities further address the preparation of the Collegeâs financial statements, preparation of reports for internal and external constituencies.Oversight of the Office of the Controller, supervision, and development of financial professional staff members.The controller will be responsible for operational accounting standards, financial analysis, and ERP financial module system implementation and update.Ensures the accurate and timely processing of all accounting transactions and accounting related processesWorks closely with the Collegeâs financial aid department in administering student loans, scholarships, state and federal financial aidActs as the primary liaison with auditors to coordinate and manage the annual financial audit, single audit for federal and state grants, and financial aid audits; prepare, gather, and review information prepared by others required for these auditsServe as Administrator for governmental online systems such as G-6, SAM, IRAPT, NSF, and other federal and state granting agencies.Must be able to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
