Emergency Services Specialist

The Department of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) provides comprehensive programs and services to support our world-class researchers, staff, and university community. EHS assists the campus community with compliance and promotes health, safety, and environmental stewardship.

Under general supervision from the Emergency Services Supervisor and Section Manager, the Emergency Services team provides support for code compliance, inspections of AEDs, and sprinkler valves along with conducting all required fire evacuation drills. The Emergency Services Team also provides support for construction/renovation projects and Cornell Facility Maintenance Operations by performing all fire protection system shutdowns and system restores.

This position will also provide emergency response when needed that includes: providing services, consultation, advice and timely incident/complaint handling, response and resolution for campus emergencies including, but not limited to medical emergency, fires, activated/trouble, fire alarms, system alarms, local alarms, elevator response, odor complaints, accidents, safety complaints, confine space rescue, chemical/biological/radioactive materials spills, sprinkler system activations, facility/utility shutdowns, and campus problems or assistance requests made by other campus departments; serve as initial department incident commander at campus emergency scenes as well as the initial incident commander for non-criminal emergencies; and act as liaison with University constituents, police agencies, fire departments, and ambulance services located on Cornell-Ithaca owned properties.

This position is subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet business needs. Individuals in this role must be able to work any and all shifts.

This is an endowed, union position represented by the Teamsters Local 317. The starting pay rate is $26.79/hour.
