Job description
The Principal serves as the educational leader of Central Catholic High School (“Central Catholic” or “CCHS”) and is responsible for advancing the school’s Marist and Catholic mission; for the quality of the school’s religious, educational, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs; for the supervision and safety of students; for managing educational and support staff; and for cultivating productive parent relations.
This position commences in July 2024.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the day-to-day educational operations of the school through the management of faculty, curriculum, student programming and related communications.
- With consultation of the president and administrative team, develop and continually refine Central Catholic’s educational vision and a comprehensive plan to implement that vision.
- Coordinate, delegate and support the duties of assistant principals and other subordinates to ensure effectiveness of all educational functions including but not limited to: curriculum development; program planning and staffing; course, teacher, and student scheduling; scheduling of educational and athletic facilities; academic and student behavior policies; professional policies for educational professionals and support staff; annual and periodic school calendars; bell schedule; student health & safety, emergency procedures, and supervision of students.
- Oversee annual contracts for all employees in the principal’s chain of command for the signature of the president, principal, and respective employee.
- Assist in the formulation of the annual budget through coordination of budget planning for all employees and departments in the principal’s chain of command.
- In consultation with assistant principals and department chairs, plan and implement a program of professional development for all educational staff.
- Plan and conduct general faculty & staff meetings, publish weekly faculty & staff notes and ensure that faculty & staff are kept aware of and affirmatively engaged in important school news, events, projects, and school development efforts as appropriate.
- Use various forums and media to ensure effective transmission of information to students and parents and to provide two-way communication with students and parents.
- Coordinate revision and publication of Faculty Handbook and the Student-Parent Handbook.
- Acting upon recommendations from the Assistant Principals, decide in cases of student expulsion/withdrawal. Advise the President of expulsion decisions in advance of their rendering.
- In consultation with local public school departments, manage the distribution of Title I, II and IV federal funding.
- Serve as the primary liaison for CCHS to the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Merrimack Valley Conference, state educational agencies, diocesan educational offices, the local school district and other agencies and organizations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, board policies, civil regulations, terms of the collective bargaining agreement, and the standards of accrediting agencies.
- Ensure procedures for the security and confidentiality of school records.
- Attend regular meetings of the Board of Directors, president’s cabinet, and board committees (as directed by the president).
- Display courteous and ethical and professional behavior in relation to all CCHS constituents.
- Assume any additional duty required by Central Catholic that is consistent with the aforementioned duties, consistent with the best interests of the school and its students, and neither arbitrary, capricious nor punitive in nature.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SUPERVISION OF OTHER EMPLOYEES
- Provides for the selection, supervision, evaluation, support, and discipline (as needed) of assistant principals, athletic director, counselors, and campus ministers.
- Screens, interviews and recommends the selection of staff including teachers and department chairs; assigns the teaching staff.
- All other employees within the principal’s chain of command are subordinate to the principal.
- Provides for the selection, supervision, evaluation, support, and discipline (as needed) of all other employees within the principal’s chain of command; to these purposes the principal may delegate certain responsibilities to subordinates.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a thorough knowledge of Catholic education, values, and teachings.
- Masters degree in educational administration or related field.
- Massachusetts principal’s certification or specific plan to attain this credential.
- Five or more years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level.
- Minimum of three years successful experience in a school leadership role.; Catholic school leadership experience preferred.
- Exemplary management and leadership abilities, including the capacity to inspire and motivate as well as handle challenges and difficulties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with students, families, faculty, staff and the wider community.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Consistent and high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to supervise subordinates, and to cultivate collegiality and accountability among faculty and staff.
- The ability to foster a diverse and inclusive environment, welcoming people from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- A drive for academic excellence and a dedication to providing the best possible educational opportunities for all students.
- Proficiency with email, internet, Microsoft Office applications, and high school information / database systems.
