Medical & Legal Advocate Internship (Non-Compensation Part-Time)
Location: Chicago Heights, IL
The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a 21st Century, business-savvy, social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking a Medical & Legal Advocate Volunteer for the YWCA Sexual Violence Support Services Program. This is an unpaid, part-time position working at our South Suburban Center located in Chicago Heights at 320 W. 202nd Street.
This position will require documented proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. Interns will be required to provide proof of vaccination prior to start date.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Medical & Legal Advocate Interns are on call to provide 24-hour medical advocacy to hospital emergency rooms, police districts and courthouses. With the survivor’s permission, advocates are expected to stay and provide comfort throughout hospital examinations, evidence collection, police interviews and court appearances. Interns must demonstrate a non-judgmental, supportive attitude toward all survivors of sexual assault.
Intern Advocates will benefit from comprehensive training, experience in crisis counseling, following court cases, and interacting with survivors, references for future job opportunities and opportunities to interact with veteran advocates and other sister organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Mobile Phone Needed
Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license required
Can be Bachelor or Masters level
Minimum 1 semester commitment
Weekly hourly commitment:
On-call shifts available are evening, overnight, or weekends:
