The Assistant Director of Surgical Services is responsible for direct day to day activities of Surgical Services including Ambulatory Services and Recovery Room.

Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of unit(s) standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing process and guides staff in its application. Assist in identification of staff learning needs and promotes educational growth and increased competence of staff through the direction of and/or participation in orientation, in-service education and continuing education. Promotes and monitors clinical outcomes and staff competencies and participates in the evaluation of staff performance. Hires, fires, disciplines, perform performance appraisal for all direct reports. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of unit based Quality Assessment and Improvement activities. Makes administrative decisions relative to the clinical areas based on established policies, regulations and guidelines. Assists in coordinating activities of clinical area with other departments/disciplines to assure continuity in the patients’ care.

 

Demonstrates professional cooperation and serves as a resource to Nursing, Medical staff and other members of the health care team in area of clinical expertise. Represents clinical area on hospital and medical staff committees as designated. Fosters and promotes a professional and collaborative relationship with physicians and maintains positive and open communication with the Director(s) of Service of the clinical area. Assesses the unit environment and staff practices to identify any safety or infection control concerns and maintains effective working relationship with Directors of involved departments.

• Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in New York State.
• Baccalaureate degree. Master’s degree preferred.
• Demonstrate competence as a nursing practitioner. (Minimum 3 – 5 years clinical experience in Operation Room.
• Minimum of three (3) years leadership in Surgical Services.
