Job description

McKendree University welcomes applications for the position of Instructional Technologist located at its Lebanon, IL campus. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

The Instructional Technologist serves as the administrator of the Learning Management System (LMS) and other campus educational technology systems. Supports, develops, implements, and collaborates with faculty, 3rd party vendors, online course development, and other educational programs which use technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provides support to faculty in the development and maintenance of new and existing online courses, research effective online learning strategies, develops instructional models for a variety of subject matter areas, and designs training and support materials.

· Provide guidance to faculty in technology tools and methods, use of instructional software, and effective uses of multimedia to run their courses and achieve better pedagogical outcomes across all modalities (face-to-face, hybrid/blended, online) more effectively.

· Design, develop, and deliver workshops and training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices; maintain records.

· Assist in research on educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.

· Working with vendors and the LMS Management representative to ensure successful integration of external tools added into the LMS.

· Administer, manage, and research best practices in consultation with campus partners for successful LMS operations and integrated systems—i.e., SIS, 3rd party tools, built-in analytics—to optimize the multi-modal teaching and learning experience.

· Analyze existing instructional materials, ensure media selected for each course are consistent with the learning outcomes, and correspond to student learning needs and industry requirements.

· Identifies, documents, research, and suggests solutions for LMS course delivery issues.

· Monitor and respond to technical support, including phone, email, and walk-in support related to LMS functionality and other educational technology services.

· Remain current regarding department initiatives such as educational technology, faculty development, universal design for learning, and distance learning.

· Manage projects to completion.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology or equivalent experience in instructional design, education, instructional technology, or a related area.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Strong communication skills with various levels of faculty and staff.

· Knowledge of online learning methodologies, platforms, and software.

· Knowledgeable about course pedagogy, design, development, and improvement.

· A high level of proficiency in applicable technologies and software (e.g., MS Office Suite)

· Ability to assess learning needs and characteristics for curriculum.

· Ability to create engaging, relevant learning experiences.

· Strong project management and problem-solving skills.

· Knowledge of audio/visual equipment, personal device technologies, and other multimedia.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· 2 years of relevant experience

· Experience in universal design for learning with knowledge in accessibility standards for online courses and familiarity with assistive technologies for online environments.

· Familiarity with graphic editing tools, HTML, and eLearning authoring tools.

· Demonstrated skills in customer service, verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, teamwork/collaboration, time management, problem solving and independent task completion.

· Knowledge and understanding of higher education organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.

WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS :

Office environment; 40 hours per week; normally 8:00am-5:00pm; some evening and weekend work required.
