Job description
Savannah Technical College is seeking a full-time Admissions Counselor/Recruiter. Under general supervision, plans and implements student recruitment activities, assists prospective students with the admission and readmission process, processes new student applications, and may coordinate the Post-Secondary Options Program and dual enrollment with high schools. Completes administrative reports, provides information to prospective and enrolled students concerning financial aid assistance, vocational opportunities, program choice/change, educational requisites, and policy/procedures. May also provide job placement services to students, administer various testing programs and perform evening Administrator duties. Job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plans and implements student recruitment activities for a technical college.
- Develops recruitment strategies and makes appropriate recommendations to managers and supervisors. Works cooperatively with the faculty on student recruitment and retention activities.
- Plans a yearly recruitment schedule for visiting a variety of groups, such as churches, civic and social groups, senior citizens, military and correctional facilities, job fairs, etc. Represents the technical college at college recruitment functions.
- Coordinates recruitment material mailings. Develops special recruitment initiatives that meet the technical college's requirements.
- Schedules and hosts campus tours and visits for potential students. Follows up appropriately with correspondence by phone and/or mailings.
- Properly maintains and up-dates a recruitment mailing list.
- Assists prospective students with the admission and readmission process.
- Provides information to students regarding the admissions process, transfer of transcripts, financial aid and various programs offered in a professional manner.
- Establishes and maintains open communication channels between the students and the Admissions Office.
- Maintains a proper demeanor while counseling students in choosing a program of study. Accurately identifies any barriers in achieving goals; discusses and suggests effective alternatives.
- Assists with coordinating the development of brochures/handouts and compiles information for future use by students and the general public according to established guidelines.
- Promptly, accurately and professionally responds to or ensures response is given to student questions.
- Processes new student applications and related information.
- Inputs student name and address into the BANNER student information system according to established procedures. Updates name and address changes as needed.
- Accurately enters high school transcripts into BANNER.
- Monitors processing to ensure that all necessary documents are processed in sufficient time for enrollment without delay, identifying and correcting problems as they arise.
- Applies appropriate internal procedures and processing methods to best accomplish the application process. Recommends appropriate changes to policies and tests new procedures.
- Coordinates the Post-Secondary Options Program and dual enrollment in service area.
- Coordinates with financial aid staff regarding tuition fees and HOPE grants in a professional and timely manner.
- Provides input using learned knowledge of program area to state staff on needs, topics, activities and materials.
- Sends billing account information to appropriate technical college personnel for payment to Department of Education in a specified time frame.
- Coordinates with high schools the registration and withdrawals of students in the program in an organized manner.
- Completes and distributes reports in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with admissions guidelines and procedures.
- Establishes, updates and maintains student application files recording specific instructions or discrepancies and documents findings.
- Keeps abreast of admissions regulations and technical college policies and procedures in order to effectively and efficiently perform the various duties associated with the admissions program.
- Provides information to technical college prospective and enrolled students concerning state and federal financial assistance, registration process, vocational opportunities, program choice/change, educational requisites, technical college policy/procedure, state policy etc., throughout the students' educational tenure.
- Provides guidance to students on the availability of financial aid, the requirements associated with the availability and the application process in a timely manner.
- Responds to questions and concerns from students with accurate and complete information and in a professional and courteous manner.
- Thoroughly evaluates records to determine eligibility for program choice and recommends admission status. Provides professional guidance to students who fail to meet minimum admission requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university *and* Two (2) years of related work experience; Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-to-year basis.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of phone and mobile phone system operations
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to minimum)
Physical Demands
The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience . Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package. Positions are contingent upon funding.
