Qualities of the successful candidate include:
Perform paying and receiving functions for customers. This will include taking deposits, withdrawals, and transfers from customers. Additionally, the Retail Banker I may sell cashier’s checks and help customers with additional related services.
- Provide high level of customer service in person or by phone. This includes understanding customer needs, as well as understanding the bank products offered, the ability to explain the value of those products to customers and refer customers to the appropriate department if not Retail Banking.
- Support customers with maintenance questions concerning their accounts. This will include address changes, check orders and the like.
- Assist walk-in customers with their new account needs. This will include checking, savings, certificates and the like.
- Assist walk-in and phone customers with problems or service issues to their account(s).
- Will be expected to cross-sell and refer customers and prospects to bank products.
- Support the overall branch product promotion effort. Direct product promotion goals may be established by management for such items as ATM cards, direct deposit, automated banking, or referrals for other Bank products.
- Participate as part of various retail product campaigns the Bank initiates.
- Process night deposits including recording items and verifying currency.
- May be included in a rotating schedule which may include Saturdays.
- Practices branch security procedures and protects customer confidentiality and privacy.
- May perform additional duties as necessary to keep the Bank operating efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities of this position include (but not limited to):
- Responsible for retail product promotion. This will include helping to deepen account relationships with existing customers and soliciting prospects to the Bank.
- Understand the various products the Bank offers and able to explain the value of those products to customers.
- Responsible for maintaining existing and generating new deposit growth.
- Responsible for generating consumer loans with guidelines set by Bank policy and growth targets.
- Will interview and profile customer relationships to identify growth opportunities. Make product recommendations, cross-sell and refer customers and prospects to bank accounts.
- Authorize or recommend approval of consumer applications for lines or extensions of lines of credit and consumer loans within authority guidelines.
- Understand and comply with the related laws and compliance regulations that pertain. Examples include Bank Secrecy Act, Privacy, and Funds Availability Policy as well as the ability to interpret Federal and State laws and regulations.

-Retail Banker I employees’ interface with bank customers more than all
other categories of employees, therefore, Retail Bankers must like to be
around people, smile naturally and have a professional appearance and
be good at remembering the customer’s name.
-Understand and comply with the related Federal and State banking laws
and compliance regulations such as: Bank Secrecy Act, privacy, and
Funds Availability Policy.
-Excellent phone etiquette and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to calculate figures and attention to detail is essential.
-Must be able to multi-task and work under stress and pressure.
-General PC knowledge is required and must be able to maneuver well in
the system to assist the customer with quality customer service.
-Ability to learn and run a variety of machines.
-Must be able to communicate effectively, get along with co-workers and
deal with colleagues effectively and professionally.
-Must embrace change and see change as opportunity. Must be willing to
express and support management’s ideas to affected staff.
-Must be punctual and maintain good attendance.
-Must be trustworthy and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
