Genus PLC has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Beef Geneticist to support our global beef genetic program. The position is located in our Deforest office and remote work is an option. The Beef Geneticist has primary accountability for developing, maintaining, and improving systems for genetic evaluation using advanced statistical genetic and genomic approaches and reporting results to regional teams.

• Maintain and improve the current internal beef genomic evaluations.
• Manage, schedule, and implement regular routine evaluations runs.
• Contribute to the development of new evaluations for new products and for novel traits.
• Work to continuously improve and optimize the models and identify additional data that should be collected to increase accuracy of the predictions.
• Remain current in technical development related to genetics and genomics for livestock improvement and be prepared to implement new approaches as needed.
• Maintain and improve the current internal beef imputation and parentage pipelines.
• Develop, maintain, and deliver relevant genomic reports to regional teams.
• Drive the building and launching of new data pipelines in production and establish data integration and data validation practices.
• Travel: <5%.
• Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
• Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

• Advanced Degree (PhD) in Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics/Genomics, or a related field, with 2+ years’ experience in genetic evaluation.
• Strong statistical and computational skills, with deep understanding of statistical models applied to genomic evaluation.
• Strong programing skills in R, Python and/or other relevant languages.
• Experience working in a high-performance computing environment (e.g. Unix) and database environment (e.g. SQL).
• Experience with large-scale data management and data visualization.
• Detail oriented with proven analytical, problem identification and resolution skills.
• Understand genotype imputation, experience with imputation tools.
• Understanding of beef and dairy production systems and the type of data generated.
• Strong understanding of beef cattle genetic improvement.
• Fluent in English.
