Associate Director of Constituent Engagement College of Liberal Arts & Sciences-Office of Advancement University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is home to 15,000 students; 1,300 faculty and staff; and over 186,000 alumni. The college is home to more than 65 units and 70 plus majors. LAS is a diverse and dynamic place made up of incredible people doing impactful work every day at the heart of the university.
The Office of Advancement supports the College of LAS by building and maintaining relationships with alumni, donors, and corporate partners. Advancement is focused on special events, constituent engagement, corporate and foundation relations, fundraising, and stewardship and donor relations.
Job Summary The Associate Director develops, organizes and implements a comprehensive and integrated alumni engagement program that aligns with the mission, vision and strategic priorities of the college. They will create, implement and manage strategic initiatives to drive alumni engagement and affinity across the college; supporting a culture of philanthropy that motivates alumni giving.
Duties & Responsibilities Develops, organizes, and implements a comprehensive and integrated constituent engagement program that aligns with the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the college and cultivates an overall culture of philanthropy.
- Identify and cultivate alumni, friends, and donors to encourage continued involvement and philanthropic giving. Collaborate with major gift officers on engagement strategies for certain prospective donors.
- Partner with campus units to strategically engage alumni.
- Communicate frequently with these constituents to understand programming and advise on best practices.
- Work collaboratively with LAS advancement staff members on special events and stewardship and donor relations teams to maximize impact and workflow efficiencies.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications professionals to promote alumni engagement through college communication efforts.
- Develops system to review and evaluate all alumni engagement programming and strategy and utilizes this information to enhance future programming.
- Develop and manages a budget for the donor and constituent engagement program and apply University of Illinois purchasing rules and policies as they relate to alumni relations.
- Establish and maintain college-wide policies, procedures and guidelines related to donor and constituent engagement initiatives.
- Serves as the college's primary liaison to the University of Illinois Alumni Association and collaborates on campus-wide initiatives.
Volunteer & Event Management
- Provide executive leadership to the college's alumni council.
- Plan and execute the college's annual alumni awards event.
- Direct the student volunteer program, LAS Leaders, for the advancement office.
- Document activity in TED advancement database and use TED as tool to manage workflow, analyze productivity an impact.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree.
- Three years of work experience in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and or special events.
- Demonstrated supervisory and event management experience. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications - Demonstrated relationship management experience in alumni relations or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in providing volunteer management and recruitment.
Successful candidates will have: - Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni and other key stakeholders.
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of best practices in constituent engagement and alumni relations programs.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage several multifaceted projects simultaneously and independently while meeting aggressive deadlines.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Knowledge of higher education administration.
- Knowledge of LAS and the University of Illinois.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The target salary for this position is $70,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
This position is unable to support candidates who require work authorization sponsorship.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Champaign-Urbana each week).
