POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Assistant works under the supervision of the Dental Services Manager and is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the Dental Center, including patient care, administrative duties, laboratory, and x-ray functions. The Dental Assistant position requires a diverse set of skills: clinical, clerical, interpersonal, and technological. The Dental Assistant MUST be Bilingual (English / Spanish) and have a license to conduct x-rays.
As a member of the health center’s integrated care team, the Dental Assistant will fulfill the following KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES towards the provision of patient-centered, coordinated patient care: - Involvement in initial interviews of DAs.
- Train new hires.
- Work as a DA to ensure patient flow.
- Leading & involvement through daily function of clinic including recommendations for workflows, training modifications and further trainings of DAs and their weekly, monthly,…. assignments.
- Sterilization duties and infection control compliances.
- Attending required meetings.
- Complete supply inventory and orders for manager.
- Oversee clinic repairs and log all clinic repair related issues.
- Oversee treatment planning entry of all patients and order of treatments rendered.
- Understand and ensure UDS measures and assist clinicians to achieve goals.
Following reflects responsibilities of Dental Assistant which will be carried by a lead Dental Assistant as well:
- Providing patient care and assistance to Provider as needed. Provide treatment to minors with or without accompanying parents.
- Taking X-Rays of patients’ teeth.
- Make appointments, answer telephones and questions, make follow-up calls.
- Collecting and recording patient health histories, taking blood pressure and pulse.
- Process and follow up on Referrals.
- Deliver patient oral care instructions.
- Conduct pre-visit planning and set up trays for the following day.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of sterile procedures; cleaning specifications of various dental equipment, fixtures, utensils, and related materials.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and maintaining quality control standards.
- Knowledge of methods, procedures, and protocols for the handling and disposing of hazardous waste materials.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to foster a positive work environment.
- Excellent computer skills required, knowledge/experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a plus.
- Ability to make appointments, answer phones and questions, and contact patients for follow-up.
- Ability to process billing and collections.
- Provide a positive attitude and behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - License to operate X-Ray equipment in the state of Maryland.
- Dental Assistant licenses are a plus.
- Current CPR certification.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to speak and write English fluently . Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to relate to culturally diverse patients and community.
- Working on-site is an essential duty for the job.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Proper and professional grooming is always expected.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending or working at a desk on a computer.
- The ability to lift (up to 15lbs) is required.
- Work under stressful conditions within a controlled enclosed environment daily. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

- OSHA Category 1. Clinical environment. Possibility of exposure to chemicals and infectious body fluids e.g., HPV, HIV, HEP C, HSV.
