About The Opportunity
This position will support the Yang Center's capacity-building and engagement programs. Duties include maintaining the Yang Center website, managing our social media accounts, creating content for internal and external outreach initiatives, and providing logistical and organizational support for national and international capacity-building efforts. The successful candidate will enhance our organization's outreach, visibility, and effectiveness in promoting conservation bioacoustics.
This position will be part of the Yang Center's capacity-building and engagement team. It will be instrumental in helping to strategically plan and bring to life capacity-building programs, from our long-term training and mentorship programs around the globe to our Hawaii-based field course for Cornell students to our online curriculum of conservation bioacoustics training materials.
In addition, effective communication of our interdisciplinary work, making our training materials accessible and engaging, and fostering community programs are essential to our mission. The Yang Center has many stories waiting to be told to a diverse audience. This position is an unequaled opportunity for professionals passionate about science and conservation communication who want to promote conservation awareness. We are looking for someone creative and detail-oriented who is comfortable with multitasking. Candidates should be able to pivot between website design, media production, and logistical planning for events and programs.
The position will have the opportunity for substantial creativity and intellectual collaboration to shape how the Yang Center engages with and supports a global community. The position reports to the Assistant Director of the Yang Center; they will be expected to:
The Capacity Building and Digital Engagement Coordinator must foster and maintain excellent working relationships with coworkers, collaborators, students, and customers from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. This requires approaching all matters with an open mind, a sense of curiosity, a service-minded attitude, and diplomacy.
This is a full-time, one-year term appointment opportunity with potential annual extensions based on funding and performance. This position has an expected start date after July 1, 2024.
This position is located at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY. Work will be conducted on-site with the occasional option for remote or hybrid work.
What We Need
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, ecology, education, or conservation biology and at least 2 years of experience in external relations, developing outreach, engagement, and/or marketing efforts, or equivalent combination.
