Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for a full-time Theology Faculty position, located in River Forest, IL. The selected candidate must have competency to teach courses through in-person and online modalities in one or more of the following areas: Hebrew, Latin, Old Testament, Systematic Theology, and/or Philosophy. The selected candidate must demonstrate enthusiasm and competence for teaching both non-Christian and Christian students. The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D./Th.D. in either Systematic Theology, Exegetical Theology, or Theological Languages and be an ordained and rostered member in good standing of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or one of its partner churches. It is desirable that the candidate also has parish/pastoral experience and collegiate teaching experience.

Responsibilities/Duties:

• Instructs theology courses at an undergraduate level, including but not limited to: Systematic Theology (The Lutheran Confessions, Upper-Level theological electives such as Christology, Ecclesiology, etc.), Old Testament (Introductory courses and Upper-Level electives), Theological Languages (Latin, Hebrew, Greek) and other Theology courses, such as Introduction to Christianity and The Bible
• Advises students and theology majors
• Supports Division and University functions through service, such as committee work
• Maintains an active scholarly agenda, including membership in at least one professional organization and regular presentations at professional conferences and/or publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Skill Sets:

• Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills
• Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across institutional units with faculty, staff and senior leaders
• Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago
• A record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service at the program or university level
• The ability to challenge, motivate and encourage students to high levels of academic and personal success

Minimum Experience Required:

• Prior experience teaching at the university/college level is preferred.
• Candidates must be an ordained and rostered member in good standing of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or one of its partner churches.
• Prior parish/pastoral experience is preferred.

Education Requirements:

An earned PhD in Systematic Theology, Exegetical Theology, or Theological Languages (Greek, Hebrew, or Latin) is required; ABD candidates will be considered.
