The Labor Relations Manager will oversee the policies, procedures, metrics, and programs related to Labor Relations. Under the direction of the VP of Talent Acquisition and Labor Relations, the Manager of Labor Relations will lead all aspects of the labor relations and positive employee relations strategies.
Essential Job Functions: - Leads and facilitates the labor relations program and coordinate critical response plan execution.
- Analyzes and evaluates workforce metrics to improve labor relations across frontline teams.
- Executes the proactive employee relations program including a structured response process based on identified metrics.
- Maintains, develops, recommends, and implements program objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Develops and pursues new goals and objectives for improvement in areas of positive employee relations.
- Communicates with employees regarding concerns; provides guidance and recommendations for resolution of issues.
- Participates in the development and delivery of labor relations training programs designed to advance the skills of leaders and promotes positive employee relations.
- Manages the process to investigate and respond to NLRB complaints.
- Partner with labor relations vendors, updating assigned practices as needed.
- Ensure training of all field managers on union avoidance including Positive Employee Relations
- Activate additional in-depth training during a level 2 or 3 critical response
- Analyze and evaluate vulnerability scorecard and roundtable results to identify risks and improve employee relations across all front-line team members
- Update scorecard data on a regular basis and provide reporting to executive team
- Partner with operations on roundtables, collaborate on solutions to address areas of concern
- Participate in activities such as roundtable or stand-up meetings.
- Perform site visits at vulnerable locations as an independent view of engagement and compliance
- Track compliance on action items identified through roundtable or task lists
- Verify all areas of concern are closed, tracked to positive completion
- Maintain relationship with Real Estate and Procurement to ensure site inspection issues are addressed
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of human resources and labor relations principles, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with employees, boards, officials, directors, and other stakeholders.
- Effective project and time management skills.
- Working understanding of NLRB rules.
- Must be knowledgeable in federal, state and local regulations relating to labor issues.
- Ability to compile, research, and analyze information.
- Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports.
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Up to 50% travel
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business, Public Administration, or related field required;
- 4-7 years of related experience including employee engagement and labor relations.
- Experience must include leading contract administration, grievance processing, performance management and disciplinary activities, as well as facilitating on-going communication and working relationships with employee representative organizations and other college stakeholders.
