WHY WE NEED YOU
We are inviting analytical and dedicated professionals with a passion for turning financial data into actionable steps to apply for our Sr. Grants Accountant role.
As a member of our Grants Team, you will play a key role in driving new technological changes within our department with the launch of a new accounting system and help to manage and migrate a portfolio of complex grants to the new platform. Along the way, you will help to identify new, innovative ways to improve our current processes and drive innovation within our grants team and within our department.
You will have the unique opportunity to leverage your financial analysis skills and grants management expertise to make a positive impact beyond the bottom-line by improving the quality of life for your neighbors and greater Los Angeles community.
o Serve as a key finance liaison between Finance Business Services (FBS) and various other departments including grant-seeking and grant-making teams.
o Lead grant budget meetings with Grant Managers and Program Staff, where status of grants are discussed and budgets are tracked against.
o Support other departments in fulfilling their impact goals by providing actionable financial information.
o Establish grant deadlines and a tracking and filing system to ensure that deadlines for proposals, interim reporting, and final reporting are met; maintain complete and accurate grant files
o Review and prepare grant-related financial transactions and journal entries prior to entry into accounting system
o Monitor expenditure activity for compliance and meet and communicate with grant managers and program staff as needed
o Conduct monthly budget reviews of grants to compare budget to actuals, to assure all activities fall within funder and agency guidelines, and to ensure proper cutoff of expenses
o Assist with grant closeout procedures in accordance with regulations; reconcile and close grants on a timely basis
o Prepare grant financial reports for submission to funding sources
o Assist the Vice President, Finance, Director, Finance, Grant Managers, Program staff, and Development Officers in the development of policies and procedures to fulfill grant accounting and compliance requirements
o Serve in a key supportive role to migrate grant related financial information from our existing financial system (Microsoft Dynamics SL) to our new financial system (Sage Intacct)
o Assist in creating new dashboard and reports in the new financial system to provide financial transparency and understanding within organization
o Advise leadership within the Finance Business Services Department on new areas of potential innovation and increased efficiency
o Build, manage, and maintain budgets within new accounting software and excel spreadsheet within the goal of providing key stakeholders with relevant grant-related financial information
o As needed, analyze and track funding from various sources to effectively determine effective usage and impact.
o Translate financial analysis into layman’s terms to tell the story and explain strategy recommendations to various stakeholders
o Prepare grant financial reports for submission to funding sources in collaboration with our Community Impact and Strategic Investments departments
o Support annual financial audit, grantors’ audits, and grantors’ monitoring site visits, including the preparation of schedules, providing supporting documents, etc.
o Analyze data in accounting and other systems to ensure accuracy and correct reporting under each grant agreement, including review of grant expenses for compliance
o Assist in the development of policies and procedures to fulfill grant accounting and compliance requirements
o Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
o Minimum 5 years’ experience in a finance, accounting, or grants function; grants management or fund accounting is strongly preferred
o Must have advanced familiarity with Excel, including pivot tables
o You enjoy a hybrid environment that includes both in-person and remote work styles and are able to work from our DTLA office on Tuesdays and Thursdays
o You are able to provide documentation of your status as fully vaccinated with primary series of COVID-19 vaccine upon being hired.
