What’s a typical day as a Planetarium Specialist? You’ll be:
• Presenting planetarium programs in the Kalamazoo Valley Museum to provide unique patron learning opportunities.
• Collaborating with team members and museum colleagues to support planetarium operations/programs, museum operations, and other museum program offerings.
• Taking responsibility for after-hour, holiday, and weekend planetarium operations and programming.
• Maintaining the planetarium facility and equipment as part of the planetarium team.
• Making recommendations for the purchase and/or replacement of equipment, planetarium shows, and related tools.
• Collaborating with community organizations/groups to create unique opportunities and experiences, attracting new and diverse audiences in the community through a DEAI lens.
• Providing input in the recruitment/hiring and supervising of contractors, volunteers, and interns to execute museum goals for patron learning.
• Performing additional duties as assigned.
This job might be an outstanding fit if you:
• Have a passion for astronomy and a strong knowledge of planetarium operations.
• Possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., astronomy, physics, education, etc.).
• Have experience presenting educational programs in a museum or similar setting.
• Are comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Have excellent communication and collaboration skills.
