Job Description
The Diener provides services in the Autopsy Division of the Department of Pathology. The position duties include but are not limited to the following: assists residents and pathologists in technical aspects of performing an autopsy; works in conjunction with pathologists to train residents, medical students, and others in simple to advanced evisceration and dissection techniques; prepares the Autopsy Suite prior to autopsy performance and cleans the Autopsy Suite according to protocol after autopsy performance; processes specimens for ancillary testing including in-house deliveries; procures tissue for pre-approved research projects; operates pathology-specific information systems (e.g. IHIS-Beaker) to process Autopsy cases and specimens.
Performs morgue attendant responsibilities daily which include, but are not limited to, managing routine receipt and release of decedents, transferring specimens to/from the Surgical Pathology lab and to/from the Morgue, organizing and cataloging surgical specimens, and disposing of hazardous chemicals and biohazardous tissue according to protocol; may prepare specimens for conference and restore the specimens following presentation; assists with maintenance of equipment and instruments, inventory of supplies, transfer and storage of autopsy photos, and lab safety protocols; performs administrative tasks as needed.
Minimum Education Required Additional Information
This position will require working Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with occasional after-hours coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
