All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months.All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance is provided for the internship program.
Position Summary: Bio-Techne is currently looking to provide an opportunity for biotech exposure and is seeking a Research Intern with experience in the molecular diagnostics area working with RNA, DNA, and protein. The Waltham, MA Bio-Techne site works to develop diagnostic tests using qPCR/RT-PCR and/or other molecular test platforms. This position provides a wonderful opportunity to participate in an entrepreneurial biotech company to enhance personal and professional development. It requires an individual with a can-do mindset who is adaptable and able to fill different roles and responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have exposure to biological coursework, a familiarity with the scientific method, organized with an eye for details, a good team player, and have excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities: - Molecular Biology laboratory work for projects in biomarker development.
- Train and follow QA work routines and SOPs as applicable.
- Independently process clinical samples such as serum, plasma, and urine.
- Nucleic acid extractions, qRT-PCR, assay optimization under supervision.
- Report and document results and progress to colleagues.
- Carry out troubleshooting activities under supervision.
- Take on routine laboratory responsibilities and maintain compliance with laboratory rules.
Qualifications Qualifications: - Systematic, meticulous, and well organized.
- Ability to work under pressure and accomplish objectives.
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques with hands-on experience with various nucleic acid and protein testing platforms and technology landscape, especially techniques in ultra-sensitive detection of nucleic acids an advantage.
- Previous experience with clinical samples or from a service laboratory is an advantage.
Desired Skills: - Experienced with a variety of molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and detection, etc.
- Experience and understanding of repetitive and manual/hands on processes.
- Self-motivated with knowhow to prioritize and schedule multiple concurrent projects.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent work ethics with high-level of professionalism and integrity.
Program Requirements: - Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship.
- Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college.
- Must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program.
